SHADOWS ON THE WALL
28.09.23 - 24.10.23
The Georgian Gallery, Ards Arts Centre, Down, Ireland
This series of paintings explores the intersection of place and the personal, drawing deeply from memory and the passage of time to reflect on the quiet significance of everyday experience. Rooted in the artist’s rural Irish upbringing, the work is steeped in symbolism and meaning, reflecting the tension between belonging and distance. Family and the ancestral home lie at the centre of this body of work, serving as touchstones for broader explorations of identity, memory, and solitude. The paintings examine the complex relationship between the figure and both interior and exterior landscapes, using the act of making to navigate spaces of reflection and emotional resonance. Within this work, memory serves as both subject and process, through the deconstruction of lived moments, new imagined environments are created. The resulting paintings exist in a space between the familiar and the unfamiliar, evoking a sense of place that is at once intimate and elusive.
