AT THE FOOT OF THE MOUNTAIN
07.08.25 - 28.08.25
Arcade Studios, Belfast, Ireland
This work was supported by The Arts Council of Northern Ireland as part of the SIAP Award, and began development during a residency with Interface Inagh, Connemara, which was funded by The Arts Council/ An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
This work weaves together themes of memory, temporality, place, and the human condition. Central to the practice is a celebration of the materiality of paint itself, positioned not merely as a vehicle for representation but as a subject in its own right. The work investigates the point of convergence between medium and meaning, where the physical properties of paint and the subject matter coalesce.
Through this process, deconstructed landscapes and interior worlds emerge creating ambiguous spaces that exist in a state of flux. These environments mirror contemporary uncertainties, they are serene yet disquieting, and offer a contemplative reflection on the instability of the present moment. The work further interrogates our evolving relationship with the land and its capacity to sustain, nourish, and endure amidst crisis. It gestures toward broader environmental and existential concerns, situating human resilience within a larger, often precarious context.
Ultimately, this body of work is a meditation on endurance and survival. It seeks to articulate the quiet, persistent hope that underpins the human experience, the impulse to continue, to adapt, and to find meaning even in the most uncertain of times.
